giving it a go...

yesterday i actually, finally appliqued something.  & let me tell you...nothing is safe now!!  i want to applique everything not moving!!

it was surprisingly easy (thanks to the miracle product:  wonder under) & so fun to do.  and i even used a bit of a vintage (umm...thrifted from our crappy goodwill) pillowcase too.   AND i used some ribbons and fabrics i've been hamstering (my new favorite word...but it so identifies me & my hoarding ways...lol).  

i'm so proud of myself!  after i finished the project (it is for an upcoming class...will show sneaks once i get the O.K.) i kept showing it to mike "isn't this so cool?  didn't i do a good job??  i cut & designed all those little things myself, ya know?  did you notice the little embroidery????  what about the top stitching?  did you notice the top stitching in the pretty color??"

he was all "yeah gi...it's cool....yeah...nice"

obviously applique isn't his thing...lol  

my girls were appreciative of my little project this morning when they tromped down the stairs for breakfast.  & now they have placed orders for appliqued pencil cases & tote bags & tee shirts & pajamas...

ryan was all "good job mommy!  it looks cool!"  a wee bit more excited than his father...lol  but still not catching the applique vibe...lol

so cheers to trying something new :)

& since i need a photo for this post, but can't share photos of the project yet, here is a photo of my kids & their "scooterville" in the driveway.  so cute...they even drew a ice cream shop & a post office & a hospital and each drew his/her own house.  adorable!

quilting envy...

confession time...

i've got MAJOR quilting envy.  huge, major quilting envy.  & this month has been torture since it is quilting month & sew mama sew + lots of amazing quilters around the web have been posting fantastic tutorials, tips & inspiration.  my tumbl'r has been on fire!!

& i can't wait for fatquarterly to start up.  looks so fun!  really looking forward to finally taking the plunge & staring my first quilt soon! 

but in the meantime, i've been quilting lots w/ patterned paper.  yesterday i made this little journal to hold all my quilting dreams & ideas & color combinations & inspirations ripped from magazines i've been collecting.  i used all the beautiful patterned paper from my april kenner road kits.  i LOVE that purple!!

& i chose to try out one of those wonky, freestyle log cabin patterns that i absolutely love.  i really like how it turned out & i'm looking forward to filling this little journal up with lots of quilting gorgeousness.

an ode to mango slaw..

p.s.  mango slaw recipe:  4 cups cabbage & carrot slaw mix, 1 cup mango, 1/4 cup red onion...mix together.  make dressing:  1/4 cup mayo, 1 Tbsp cider vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1/4 salt...mix well & then mix w/ the slaw mix.  serve & enjoy :)

* finish those pink penguin fabric baskets

* read some more of A Good Year by Peter Mayle (finished The Vintage Caper last week...really need to get myself to the south of France :)

* finish 2 more layouts for class (more about this in a bit :)

* start & finish 5 projects for another class (yep....:)

* buy more wine (those darn Peter Mayle books always have me running to the wine shop for a crisp Rose.  ha!  who am I kidding...I'm always game for a nice glass of wine...lol :)

* figure out what color to paint the girls' room.  we took apart the bunk beds this weekend & looking to paint & fix it all pretty for them.  i have been peeking around the web & banking images in tumbl'r trying to figure out a color scheme for them.  keep gravitating toward "ALL"  lol...

* eat breakfast

peeking in here....

we are knee deep in cleats & water bottles & "go *insert child's name here* go!!!!" around here these days. 

i'll admit absolutely LOVING it though.  well, not the getting everyone ready & out the door, rushing around town to practice part.  but the watching from the sidelines, chit chatting w/ neighbors & cheering on thing....i LOVE that part.  it's my calling i think...lol.

on the crafting front, this month's kenner road kits have definitely pulled me out of my scrapbooking slump.  the patterned papers & embellishments in this month's kits are soooooo up my alley it has been so enjoyable (& easy) to create with these kits.

wish i could find a duvet cover just like that yellow patterned paper above.  i LOVE it.  actually i'll take a set of pillows w/ all the patterns in my "us" layout too.  yellow duvet cover & euro shams w/ crisp white sheets (maybe w/ a pretty crocheted cotton border) & all those colorful pillows piled in front pottery barn style.  yeah...that would be so awesome.

annnnnnnnd i'm back to the fabric obsession....lol
